Time Travel
The gimmick today is rather straight forward; time travel is very possible within the confines of 5e, at least under some readings.
lets read the teleport spell
“This spell instantly transports you and up to eight willing creatures of your choice that you can see within range, or a single object that you can see within range, to a destination you select. If you target an object, it must be able to fit entirely inside a 10-foot cube, and it can’t be held or carried by an unwilling creature.
The destination you choose must be known to you, and it must be on the same plane of existence as you. Your familiarity with the destination determines whether you arrive there successfully. The GM rolls d100 and consults the table.”
So we can go to another destination.
“the place to which someone or something is going or being sent.” is the standard definition for “destination”. With this in mind, “The past” generally, is a completely valid destination of which you are familiar and can have objects from.
We can create similar results with the teleportation circle spell.
“As you cast the spell, you draw a 10-foot-diameter circle on the ground inscribed with sigils that link your location to a permanent teleportation circle of your choice whose sigil sequence you know and that is on the same plane of existence as you. A shimmering portal opens within the circle you drew and remains open until the end of your next turn. Any creature that enters the portal instantly appears within 5 feet of the destination circle or in the nearest unoccupied space if that space is occupied.”
We can now travel back to a point in time to whenever we have a circle, and when we have 7th level spells, any point of the past we’re familiar with, as well as possibly the future if we feel risky and can become familiar enough with it using divination or minor illusion omniscience.
This opens up many possibilities such as:
-going back in time to pick up a magic item from the past
-recruiting your past self on adventures
-going back in time and stopping the main antagonist from ever being born
-become your own warlock patron and grandfather in an alternate timeline
The future of the past
so while time travel is technically allowed RAW, there’s zero information on how temporal logic works. hopefully soon i’ll write on the possible temporal logic scenarios the DM might put into place for this event, and we can discuss the best ways to approach each one.
